GREEK Australian 30 year old Alex Nikakis succumbed to his wounds several hours after being seriously injured on the boat accident that occurred Wednesday after midnight at the Sydney Harbour. In all, six people died and another eight were injured when their boat collided with a larger fishing boat.
Nikakis suffered head and chest injuries. His brother had recently got married and in a tragic irony of fate he had written on a social networking site: "my brother got married on the weekend! how quickly life is passing us by!" Fourteen people were aboard the half-cabin boat setting off on a joy ride, apparently without the boat owner's permission.
Another Greek Australian, Michael Tsimnadis 32 escaped with a broken thumb and a concussion. He used his jacket to keep afloat, cried for help and was rescued by two fishermen.
NKEE tried to contact the Tsimnadis family but the father refused to make any comments. The police are investigating the circumstances of the accident.
