Goals to Gekas and Amanatidis in Germany
GREEK international Theofanis Gekas and Ioannis Amanatidis have continued their fine form in the German Bundesliga, scoring three goals between them over the weekend.
Gekas continued his red-hot form with his Bundesliga-leading 17th goal - including his 10th in the past eight games, but it wasn't enough for his team Bochum, who lost 3-1 to Hertha Berlin.
Amanatidis netted a double for Eintracht Frankfurt as they defeated Arminia Bielefeld 4-2.
Hertha Berlin fought back to beat struggling Bochum 3-1 in Karsten Heine's first Bundesliga game as new boss of the capital club on Saturday.
Bochum went ahead in the second minute through the Bundesliga's leading scorer Theofanis Gekas.
Carlos Mineiro lost the ball in the Berlin defence and Bochum pushed forward with Joel Epalle crossing to Gekas, who found the back of the net for the fifth straight match.
Gekas nearly set up another goal seven minutes later, heading back onto Dennis Grote, whose shot from 17 yards struck the crossbar.
However, Christian Gimenez equalised for Berlin in the 58th minute and Gilberto gave Hertha the lead eight minutes later.
Chinedu Ede sealed the win with a goal in the 90th minute.
Meanwhile, Eintracht Frankfurt took a giant stride towards Bundesliga safety with a thrilling 4-2 win in a relegation six-pointer at Arminia Bielefeld.
An enthralling game got off to a flyer with a 10th-minute goal from Amanatidis, who, on his first start in five weeks, drove the ball from 30 yards out past goalkeeper Mathias Hain.
Radim Kucera equalised for Arminia before Aleksander Vasovski made it 2-1 to the visitors at the interval.
Amanatidis scored his second from the spot just after the break, substitute Christian Eigler gave Arminia hope late on, but that was crushed by substitute Marcell Heller at the death.
Friedhelm Funkel's men were just one point above Arminia going into the game, but the win has put four points between them and the drop zone, while Arminia are now two points from safety. |
